A football practice ended with tragedy on Wednesday as a 13-year-old boy collapsed in the middle of football practice at Summer Creek Middle School.

Michael McFarland is the Crowley Independent School District Superintendent told parents in a letter that coaches did everything they could including performing CPR until paramedics arrived but they could not save eighth-grader Kyrell McBride-Johnson.

The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital. They still are not sure about the actual cause of death.

KWTX reports the last football player to die in Texas was thought to be a freshman who collapsed during practice last September in Emory, Texas.
