92 Year Old Woman Becomes the Oldest to Finish a Marathon
How far can you run without stopping? We'll make it easier, how far can you walk without stopping? Can you go 26 miles? Harriette Thompson can and she is 92 years old!
The cancer survivor has become the oldest woman to finish a marathon, completing the 26.2-mile San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon on Sunday.
Harriette Thompson finished the full marathon in an unofficial time of 7:24:36, with a pace of just under 17 minutes per mile. She says she just puts one foot in front of the other until she is done.
Thompson runs to call attention to cancer. She has had it twice, her husband died of cancer in January and her son just began his own round of chemotherapy. She has raised over 100 thousand dollars since she started running marathons at the age of 76.
Can you imagine running or even walking for over 7 hours? Thompson has run the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon several times before, in fact it's the only race she runs.
I think I can understand why. She probably needs 365 days of rest to get ready for the next one!
