Harker Heights Coach Diagnosed With Cancer Is Still Fighting

Former Harker Heights baseball and football coach Kye Robertson has made tremendous progress in his battle with cancer, and he and his family could really use our love and support as he prepares for another major step on the road to recovery.

Robertson was diagnosed with Myeloid Sarcoma/soft tissue leukemia in September of 2016 following back surgery. Since then he's undergone 4 rounds of aggressive chemo therapy and 10 radiation treatments at Houston's MD Anderson Cancer Treatment Center.

Robertson's wife, Maci, said Monday that her husband's tumors are gone and he's in remission. Maci said Kye is scheduled for a stem cell transplant on February 22nd, before which he'll have to undergo another 4-day chemo/radiation treatment. Once the transplant is complete, he'll have to remain within 20 miles of MDA for 100 days for testing.

"We do not know what is in store for us after the 100 days are up," Maci said Monday.  "For now, we are doing everything we can to remain positive and mentally prepare for the next major milestone."

While Kye's recovering is awesome news for his wife and two kids, Kolt and Kynzlee, it also means more expenses on top of normal daily expenses, exacerbated by the fact that Kye no longer receives a paycheck from Killeen ISD.
