On Monday night (Sept. 19), while playing a show in Chicago, Ill., Amanda Shires was the victim of a burglary. The singer reports on Twitter that her van was broken into -- and she lost some pretty important stuff.

Shires has been on tour promoting her new album, My Piece of Land, which was released on Friday (Sept. 16), before heading to the 2016 Americana Music Festival in Nashville this week. She and her band rocked the stage at City Winery in Chicago -- but, unfortunately, someone saw their set as an opportunity to rob them.

The news first broke when Shires' husband, Jason Isbelltweeted that his wife was the victim of theft and requested that fans be on the lookout.

Shires followed up on social media to share that some of her most valuable possessions were lost, including her retainer, ukulele and handwritten content for both new songs and her thesis, among other items.

As Isbell pointed out, though, things could have been much worse, as Shires and company's gear was in the venue with them at the time. When a fan responded with dismay that someone would rob a band, Isbell wrote back, "The dumba-- kind does it while they are inside with most of their gear."

My Piece of Land is Shires' fifth studio album and focuses around her marriage to Isbell and the birth of their daughter, Mercy Rose, in 2015. Up next, the singer-songwriter will continue touring with Isbell as part of his 400 Unit band and performing her own solo shows, including an AmericanaFest showcase on Thursday (Sept. 22).
