Haynes Elementary School in Killeen managed to load two trailers with donated goods after the school sent letters home with children Thursday. School staff members say donations began pouring in just hours after students’ parents saw the letters. Teachers hope that the relief effort at Hayes will teach students about good citizenship and generosity.

The school collected diapers, clothes and other items which will be added to the collection efforts of the Belton Fire Department.

Meanwhile, the Copperas Cove ISD managed to raise over $9,000 in monetary donations Monday. That donation drive was part of a joint effort with Connally ISD, which held its own “Go Red For West” campaign, in which students were encouraged to wear red shirts in support of those affected by the tragedy in West. Students could also contribute a $1 donation.
