Cutting Horse is one of the great spectator sports that has been part of life in Texas since the very first event took place in Haskell, Texas in 1898.

It's almost like a dance between an American Quarter Horse (or a horse of Quarter horse ancestry) and a 400 to 650-pound steer. A true cutting horse is almost born with the ability to read or anticipate a cow's intentions. Often called "cow sense" or "cow smarts", the sport features the riders' ability to guide the horse in a limited fashion while the horse guards the cow much like a defender and a point guard on a basketball court.

The Australian Cutting Horse Association Youth Group is competing this weekend at the Bell County Expo Center in an American Cutting Horse Association Event on Saturday and Sunday. Doesn't get more country than Cutting Horse followed by Willie Nelson on a Saturday night! Central Texas truly has it all!

We want to thank Mark Watt, Taylah, Michaela, Emma, and their families who all made the trip over from Australia and spent part of their afternoon hanging out at our studios! Below is our entire conversation on the air this afternoon. If you're headed to the Bell County Expo center for Willie Nelson on Saturday make sure you get there early to get a look at these gals in action!
