Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Belton Police Department this morning after an officer was injured on I-35 this morning.

A Belton police officer was among two injured in a traffic accident on I-35 this morning. Just after 8 a.m. a person driving a Toyota Camry fell asleep at the wheel and clipped a Nissan SUV which then struck the Belton patrol car. The crash took place near the 200-block of I-35.

The driver of the SUV and the officer were taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center. The officer was said to be ok. Belton PD requested assistance from the Department of Public Safety who followed up by working the crash site.

Note: A Facebook status posted by Belton PD at 12:55 PM, December 26 indicates that the injured officer was released from the hospital in stable condition and was resting at home.
