Blake Shelton and Shakira Perform ‘Need You Now’ on ‘The Voice’
This week on 'The Voice,' Blake Shelton proved that he's more than just an all-star coach on the reality television show -- he's an all-star performer, too. The country crooner teamed up with pop star Shakira to put on a smashing rendition of Lady Antebellum's 'Need You Now.'
The duo's performance came in the midst of the first week of live playoffs on the show. Both Shelton and Shakira's teams competed on stage to win a shot at next week's Live Round of performances. Eight of the top 12 spots are up to the audience, so the coaches and contestants have been working hard to win over viewers.
To ease the tension a bit, the country star teamed up with the Latina pop singer to show their contestants how the pros do it.
It's no surprise that Shelton has the chops to cover a popular country song. He played the lead guitar and sang a dependable lead part, while Shakira truly shined. Shakira's voice is pretty unique, so her talent doesn't automatically carry over to all genres. Fortunately, she can pull off a little country twang every now and then!
'Need You Now' was Shelton and Shakira's first duet since Shakira joined the cast as a judge on the show this season. Their performance came the night after Adam Levine collaborated with Usher to sing 'Superstition.'
While we love to see our favorite stars coach contestants on 'The Voice,' it's a nice change of pace to see them out on stage!
