UPDATE: Cedric Mark's bond has been increased to $1,766,500.

Hours after escaping custody in Conroe and leading police on a manhunt, Cedric Joseph Marks was booked into the Bell County Jail Sunday night on five charges, including capital murder.

Jail records indicate Marks was booked at 11:07 PM Sunday. He's charged with:

  • Capital murder of multiple persons
  • Interference with an emergency call
  • Filing a false report to police
  • Violating a protective order
  • Burglary of a habitation

His bonds total $16,500.

Based on information available to the public, many speculated that Marks would be charged with murder in connection to the disappearance and deaths of Jenna Scott and Michael Swearingin, whose bodies were discovered in Oklahoma last month. When news broke of Marks' escape from a private prisoner transport service Sunday, police hinted that this was the case. Marks' listing on the Bell County Jail roster confirms police suspicion for the deaths of the pair who were missing for 12 days before their bodies were discovered.

Marks was extradited from Kent County, Michigan on January 31 for a burglary charge in Temple, where he allegedly broke into Jenna Scott's home. Our news partner, KWTX, reports that he is a former mixed martial arts fighter whose career ended in 2017, when he began teaching in Killeen. He had a relationship with Scott, who later asked a judge for a protective order after Marks reportedly threatened her and said he'd gotten away with murder in the past. 264th District Court Judge Paul LePak in Bell County denied her request.

Last month, Marks' wife, Ginell McDonough, was arrested in Muskegon County, Michigan and charged with harboring a fugitive. 26-year-old Maya Renee Maxwell was also arrested, charged with evidence tampering after police say she left Swearingin's car in Austin in hopes of concealing it from police.
