News 10 is reporting that Central Texas State Trooper was released from a local hospital following his patrol car being struck by an 18-wheeler Sunday night.

According to DPS Sgt. Ryan W. Howard, the crash happened late Sunday night just north of Abbott when the driver of an 18-wheeler hit a parked patrol car on I-35. The crash injured the Trooper and he had to be transported to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center.

KWTX said, "Howard said the rig veered onto the shoulder of the highway and crashed into the trooper's patrol unit, which was stopped off the roadway. The trooper, who suffered head injuries, was airlifted but was speaking to first responders while on the way to Hillcrest. The investigation into the crash continues and charges are possible, Howard said. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt."
