KWTX is reporting that the city of Crawford, Texas has closed the swimming hole at Tonkawa Falls due to safety concerns.

The popular swimming hole west of Waco will close as of today after a recent stretch of dry weather has lowered the water level to dangerous levels for swimmers attempting to jump off the rocks.

Crawford Mayor Marilyn Judy says the closure tends to happen around this time of year depending on rain fall. She told KWTX the water has become stagnant due to the shortage of rain.

The closure of the swimming hole is slated to remain in place for the summer, but the park remains open for additional activities besides swimming.
