A diver assisting in the search for a driver swept away by flood waters last week has passed away after being rescued from House Creek.

According to a news release, the volunteer with the Morgan’s Point Resort Dive Team was¬†extracted from the creek by a boat team and other volunteer divers around 6:30 PM Saturday and rushed to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center before being transferred to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple. They passed away at Scott & White early Sunday morning.

Fort Hood and Morgan’s Point authorities will conduct separate investigations of the incident. The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of their family and to safeguard the integrity of the investigation.

“We extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the diver’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time,” said Lt. Gen. Paul E. Funk II, commanding general of III Corps and Fort Hood. ¬†“We are grateful to everyone who has participated in this operation over the past 6 days, especially our local and regional partners assisting in the search.”

The diver was part of an ongoing effort to locate a driver whose vehicle was swept into Clear Creek near Turkey Run Road early Tuesday morning after torrential rains caused flooding across Central Texas. The driver’s vehicle was discovered shortly before 9 PM Tuesday, but the driver was not inside.
