You may not be old enough to remember it, but on December 2nd, 1957 Elvis Presley hit #1 with Jailhouse Rock.  It's a song many were surprised made it past the censors at the time.

The Elvis rendition of this Jerry Leiber/Mike Stoller-written song was released in September of 1957.  My mom and dad were less than a year old.  Elvis' hips were scandalous in this era, yet lines in the song about "the prettiest little jailbird you ever did see, come on and do the jailhouse rock with me" made it past censors that even a decade later were slapping bands like the Rolling Stones on the wrist.  The song spent seven weeks at #1, and even spent a lone week atop the Billboard Country charts.
