KTRK is reporting evacuations are underway in the town of Bellville, Texas after reports of an explosion at the Western International Gas Company in Austin County.

The Austin County Sheriff's Office says multiple explosions took place early Tuesday causing evacuations within a 1-mile radius of the plant itself due to the combustible gas that is inside the plant. First responders are on the scene along Highway 159.

KTRK says residents reported what sounded like a series of grenades exploding early this morning. Texans traveling in the area today are asked to us FM 1456 as an alternate route. The plant is about 60 miles northwest of the city of Houston.
