The new Fort Hood mural was dedicated Friday morning by members of the community as they observed Veterans Day.

The murals is based on the theme "Camp Hood to Fort Hood - Embracing our rich military history". The artwork along E. Avenue D in Killeen has inspired a new wave of interest in the downtown area, and the military families say the like seeing this reminder of just how much the community values them.

Named after Confederate General John Bell Hood, Fort Hood first opened in 1942, and now covers some 214,000 acres in Bell and Coryell counties.

The artist who help to develop the concept of the mural is named Marty Stanek. Mr. Stanek spoke at the dedication along with Killeen Mayor Jose' Segarra. Members of the Killeen Chamber of Commerce and the Civic Art Guild also attended the dedication.
