Throughout my life I've come to realize a few things:  I'm never going to be a pro athlete, I'm never going to be wealthy and I'm never going to have traditional good looks.  While I've learned to deal with most of those issues, it's the lack of good looks that has troubled me most over the years.  Luckily, I'm married to a woman waaaaaaaay out of my league, but there was a time when I was single that my prospects didn't look good.

Careful with this trick. The intended target may not be as attractive the next morning as they were the night before. (Photo by Kevin Winter/Getty Images)

There was a night in Waco 13 years ago that I executed what would become my ONLY successful "pick up" ever.  I learned it from Maxim Magazine.  Now I'll pass it along to you. It's a method that can be used by men or women.  Here's how it works:

1.  Find your potential "target"

2.  Order 2 glasses of water and one shot of liquor.

3.  Strike up a conversation with your target.  If things are looking good, move on to step 4. If things aren't looking good, drink the shot and try again another night.

4.  Lay down the bet.  Bet him/her that you can drink both full glasses of water before he/she can finish their lone shot.  They'll be intrigued.  The rules are important.  They have to let you drink the entire first glass of water to get "warmed up" before they can touch their shot glass.  The only other rule is that they can't touch your glass(es) at any time.  Tell him/her that if you win they have to go out on a date/have another drink with you.

5.  If the bet is accepted, drink down the first glass of water as fast as you can.  Once the water is gone place the empty glass upside down on top of the full shot glass.  Now you have one glass of water to drink while he/she tries to figure out how they're gonna drink their shot without touching your glass.

Game over.  Bet won.  The rest is up to you.  You're welcome
