Houston McCoy, one of the men who stopped University of Texas Tower sniper Charles Whitman, has passed away at the age of 72.  McCoy died of complications of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease from many years of smoking.  Houston, and fellow officer Ramiro Martinez shot Whitman, who on Aug. 1, 1966, killed 14 people and wounded 32.  McCoy hit him in the face with a 12-gauge and Martinez hit him with shot to the chest, and then took the 12 gauge form McCoy and shot him one more time when he was down.
