Despite a scare early in the day Tuesday, Ft. Hood officials have announced that initial tests for Ebola performed on a soldier found dead in his yard have come back negative.

The Ft. Hood Press Center released the following statement:

UPDATE: Initial test results negative for EVD for Fort Hood Soldier found deceased at his off-post residence
UPDATE: Carl R. Darnall Medical Center medical officials confirmed at 4:15 p.m. Jan. 13 that the initial screening BioFire Assay test results are negative for the presence of the Ebola virus disease.
The more conclusive PCR Assay test, required by the Center for Disease Control, is underway and results will be released when complete to confirm the preliminary findings.
Both tests are required to exclude the diagnosis and ensure the safety of the community.
