The Killeen Fire Department spent two hours battling an intense overnight fire at an automotive paint shop.

Firefighters arrived at Tasco Auto Color in the 800 block of Highland Avenue shortly after 2:30 a.m. Friday. The first crew to arrive took a defensive posture to prevent the fire spreading to any adjacent buildings. Firefighters wore protective masks and other equipment to avoid fumes from burning chemicals. After a long battle during which explosions were heard inside the building, the flames were extinguished and no one was injured.

According to a statement from the City of Killeen, water used in the fight washed paint products into a concrete drainage culvert in Marlboro Park. The park is closed until cleanup is complete.

Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze.
