If you live in the 1500 or 1600 block of Illinois Avenue in Killeen, you need to be aware of a planned water service outage on Wednesday, May 30.

The City of Killeen's Hilary Shine issued an alert Friday afternoon about a fire hydrant repair in the area that will necessitate shutting off water service from 7 AM to approximately 3 PM.

"City crews will be repairing a fire hydrant that serves this area and must turn off water service in order to complete the work," Shine wrote. "The fire hydrant will be replaced, water lines will be flushed and bacterial samples will be taken in accordance with 290.47(h)."

"Illinois Avenue will be reduced to one lane from Ohio Avenue west to Louisiana Street while the project is accomplished. Motorists are asked to use caution, obey signage and plan alternate routes."

Shine is advising residents to boil water meant for human, pet, or plant consumption following restoration of service until the city issues a notice that it is safe to return to normal consumption. Water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least two minutes.
