On a stormy weekend in May at Bloomin' Temple Festival the sun came out long enough to shine on Kirk Baxley as he won the local level of the Texaco Country Showdown.  Kirk is now one step away from the National Finals in Nashville.

Kirk, representing US 105 and all of Central Texas, won the state competition at the Burnet BBQ Cook-Off, and he will now perform October 19th in Raton, NM for a shot at the finals in Nashville.

Each year, over 450 local, state and regional competitions take place across the country, with each competitor working to be named "Best New Act in Country Music" at the finals in Nashville.  Along with the prestige of the title comes $100,000 and the certainty of gaining the attention of record companies.  More than 50,000 artists take place in the Texaco Country Showdown each year, and Kirk Baxley is one of the few still left standing.  Kirk is now one great performance away from joining the ranks of past local, state, regional and national winners that includes Martina McBride, Garth Brooks, Miranda Lambert, Jason Aldean, Sara Evans and more.

Keep up to date with the competition online, and keep checking back here at MyUS105.com for the latest information on Kirk's journey, and send all your good karma Kirk's way as he makes Central Texas proud.  Congrats, and good luck to Kirk Baxley from all of us at US 105.
