Robert Lyle Guthrie was arraigned Saturday after he was arrested for allegedly making purchases with counterfeit bills and trying to destroy evidence.

Guthrie, 42, allegedly bought a pair of work gloves at the Dollar General in the Cove Terrace Shopping Center using a fake $10 bill. The store’s manager called police, who found Guthrie locked in the bathroom of a Century 21 Real Estate office also located in the shopping center.

When Guthrie exited the bathroom and was taken into custody, officers found two counterfeit $5 bills in his mouth along with a real $5 bill and two $1 bills. They also discovered that Guthrie had purchased a pair of blue jeans at the shopping center’s Army Store with a fake $20 bill.

Guthrie remained in the Coryell County Jail Monday night on $20,000 bond.
