Man Charged With Stabbing Over Twenty Dollars

47-year-old Kenneth Blaine Umstattd was charged Tuesday with stabbing a person over a $20 debt.

Umstattd allegedly approached the victim near the Motel 7 in the 700 block of East Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Killeen on Saturday and demanded $20. The two men started fighting, and some point the victim was assaulted with a knife. He ran to into the Motel 7 and asked that police be called.

When police arrived, Umstattd set down a small knife and surrendered. He told officers that the knife was drawn in self-defense and that the victim ran into it. The victim told officers he’d never met Umstattd, and that the suspect had approached him at random and demanded $20.

Umstattd was arraigned Tuesday and his bail was set at $100,000.
