Of all the things to steal during the holidays, including gift packages sent to people's homes, this might take the cake for most despicable.

Robinson Police and workers at Waco Memorial Park have reported that at least 72 bronze vases have been stolen from grave stones in the cemetery in the last week. Each vase is roughly valued at $700, which equals $50,400 in total losses so far.

Robinson police chief Rusty Smith said the department has spoke with area scrap metal dealers to see if these vases have been sold for scrap metal - so far there have been no reports.

Smith said these vases are often sold for scrap metal due to the high copper content in them.

Waco Memorial Park is working with local police and will be contacting all affected lot owners, offering a replacement vase at no additional cost.

Police are asking anyone with information about the thefts call crime stoppers at 254-753-4357.
