Before Paul Harvey did Dodge Commercials he was a cornerstone of the radio industry.  Although the commercial was awesome, and it was awesome, I think that some of the accomplishments and quotes of this great American have been looked over.

God made a farmer...  But he also made Paul Harvey.  At the height of his radio career Harvey was broadcast on 1200 stations and spoke to 24 million people every week!  He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George Bush and was considered a friendly voice to all Americans.  He coined the term, "and thats the rest of the story".

A brilliant wordsmith, he also had many other great quotes.  Here are a few of my favorites:

"If pro is the opposite of con, what is the opposite of progress?"

"Golf is a game in which you yell fore, shoot six, and write down five."

"If there is a fifty fifty chance that something can go wrong, then nine times out of ten it will."

"I am fiercely loyal to those willing to put their money where their mouth is."

"I've never seen a monument erected to a pessimist."

Now that you have had a few chuckles, I'll end with this... When asked when he planned to retire, Harvey was quoted saying "Retiring is just practicing to be dead, that doesn't take any practice."  And now you know the rest of the story.
