Over the weekend I made a quick trip to North Carolina and took in some excellent food, and visited the historic Biltmore Estate. I took a lot of photos.

The whole experience in Asheville, NC was amazing, but I highly recommend a trip to the Biltmore Estate. Whether you like history, gardens, wine or farm animals there is something for the whole family to enjoy.

Photos were not allowed inside the house, but I took plenty in the gardens and conservatory to make up for it. The grounds of the estate were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted who also designed a little known area called Central Park in New York City. As you can imagine it's outstanding. Enjoy!

George Vanderbilt wanted to build a quiet summer home for his family in beautiful Asheville, NC. It became the largest private house in the United States. He was heir the railroad tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt.

Here's more history from the Smithsonian Channel.
