Hey Gang,
History is happening today.  It could be the biggest story of the year.  Pope Benedict  XVI has announced that he is stepping down.  Pope is for life.  You’re Pope till you die.  This hasn't happened since 1405 with Gregory XII.  That’s right, the 15th Century.

I’m not Catholic.  Dad was, but when he saw a chance to get out he took it.  Claimed he didn’t want his kids beat by Nuns.  Good looking out Pop, thanks.  I’m just fascinated by things I don’t understand.  The whole process of electing, or picking, a new Pope is truly interesting. Remember, this process was used to pick the most powerful person on the planet.  If they choose to elevate a young Cardinal this time, it could be my last Pope.  Pope Benedict XVI was 78 when he took over for Pope John Paul, he’s now 85 and his reign has been plagued with scandal.  He said he just can’t do it any longer.  Expect a concave of Cardinals to meet 15 to 20 days after resignation, which was announced as February 28th.

If you're interested in reading about the process you can try "Conclave: The Politics, Personalities, and Process of the Next Papal Election" by John L. Allen Jr.  Of course, of late, the most famous book about electing a Pope was "Angels & Demons" by Dan Brown.

The Big Q Tip is simply pay attention.  This will be one of the biggest stories of the year.
