Rick Perry to Deliver Farewell Speech Thursday
After 14 years in office, Governor Rick Perry will step down Thursday, but chances are we haven’t heard the last of him politically.
Perry, Texas’ longest serving governor, will deliver his farewell speech at the state capitol in Austin at 2:30 PM. His address to the Texas legislature is expected to take a moderate stance, urging compromise as a means to “move Texas forward”.
The moderate tone of his speech seems to indicate that he’ll soon announce plans to join the 2016 presidential race. If he makes another bid for president, he’s likely to use Texas’ job and population boom under his governorship to polish his image after 2012’s embarrassing debate gaffe.
Governor-elect Greg Abbott will be sworn in next week.
