Round Rock, TX Sheriff's Deputy Craig Hutchinson was only three months from retirement. On Monday morning, he was tragically killed in his own home as he confronted two burglars in his backyard.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., Hutchinson, a Travis County sergeant called in for backup as he confronted two burglars in his backyard shed. When other officers arrived on the scene, they found him critically wounded with equipment from the shed also having been stolen. He was rushed to Round Rock Hospital but passed away from the fatal gunshot wounds.

Hutchinson was on the force for 32 years and was called a "gentle bear" by sheriff Greg Hamilton in a press conference:

He was a gentle bear. He taught me everything I know. He was my field training officer and I loved that guy to death.

Authorities are looking for two suspects.
