There was a celebration in Salado on Friday evening as the Eagles captured a trip to the UIL 4A State Tournament in Austin.Salado managed a two run double in the 4th inning, then never looked back. The Eagles defeated the Sweeny Bulldogs 4-1 to advance to the state tournament. The championship game is held at Dish-Faulk Field on the campus of the University of Texas, Austin.

According to the Temple Daily Telegram, Salado High School finished the season with a record of 29 and 11. The Eagles hope to add yet another great baseball season to their schools history with two more wins next week. The 4A semi-finals begin with games at 1pm and 4pm on Wednesday. The title game is set for 6:30pm Thursday.

The Eagles last state title came in 2008 when they competed as a 2A school. The UIL now classifies them as 4A.

Sweeny (30-08) was unable to take advantage of seven walks and two hit batters gifted from Salado pitching. To their credit, the Eagles worked out of several close calls with team defense to finish with the victory. Best of luck in Austin!
