Sammons Community Center to Reopen June 24
A grand reopening ceremony for Temple's Sammons Community Center is happening Saturday, June 24 after almost nine months of renovations.
The ribbon cutting ceremony at 2220 West Avenue D will begin at 10 AM, followed by a tour of the facility. There'll be live music, refreshments, and door prize giveaways from 11 AM to Noon. Mayor Danny Dunn and other City officials are expected to attend.
According to a media release from Jonathan Logue with the City of Temple, improvements include a redesigned entrance, additional classroom space, expanded restrooms, a new deck with built-in seating overlooking Lake Polk and the golf course, additional handicapped parking spaces, and landscaping work.
The $1,750,000 renovations were funded by a parks bond approved by voters in May of 2015.
“We cannot wait to reopen the doors to the Sammons Community Center [June 24th] and want to express our gratitude to the residents of Temple for allowing us to make these much needed improvements to the Center,” said Kevin Beavers, Director of Temple Parks & Recreation. “This facility will be able to serve our community for years to come. We hope you will be able to join us this Saturday to see everything the new Sammons Community Center has to offer.”
