If you’re single like me, Valentine’s Day might have you feeling lonely and blue. Well, I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be that way! Here are a few things us single people can do to have a great Valentine’s Day.

 Have A Singles Night Out

Chances are you’ve got some friends who are just as lonely as you.

That said, why not get everyone together for a night on the town sans-dates? Get the guys together and go for beer and wings, or get the girls together to do whatever the heck it is women do on girls night.

You never know – you could meet that special someone tonight. Of course, the main goal should be spending time with your friends and forgetting about your everyday worries.

Ask Someone Out

If your friends somehow managed to get reservations at Le Cher Alimentation and can’t join you for a night of singles shenanigans, maybe you can finally ask out that crush you’ve been mildly stalking for months.

If you’re both single on Valentine’s Day, the stars are pretty much aligned in your favor. It’s the most romantic day of the year, and if romantic comedies have taught us anything, it’s that people are especially susceptible to grand romantic gestures today because the calendar told them so.

Spend Time With Your Parents

Too cool to hang out with your mom and dad on Valentine’s Day, huh? Okay, kiddo. It’s not like your mom spent weeks in labor with you while your dad busted his butt every day in the salt mine to send you that hippie, liberal college just to explore your creative side and ogle people in the halls of your co-ed dorm, you ungrateful little…

Sorry, sorry…got a little carried away. The point is that your parents will always love you and always have your back. That’s more than you can say for the parade of floosies and losers you’ve been bringing home to meet them the past few years, so why not show your gratitude by calling them up and spending some quality time together?

Spend Time With Your Kids

Being a single parent is tough. I was raised by a single mother, and I brought her nothing but grief.

If you’ve done your job right, your kids are really grateful for everything you do for them in the absence of another parent, and today would be a great day for you guys to show each other some love. Sit down and have dinner together, watch a movie, share a videogame or just talk. Few things are as powerful as the love between a parent and child, and today’s a chance to create some fun memories as a family.

 Spend Time With Yourself

When’s the last time you took some time to just relax and enjoy your own company? I mean, I guess you can count the drive to work you spend singing along to 80s new-wave songs you pretend to hate around your friends, but that’s not the kind of alone time I’m talking about.

Go home, turn off your phone, sit in your favorite chair and just take a damn breather, you workaholic. Cook yourself a nice meal, pick up your favorite book or find a great movie in your DVD collection you always say you’re going to watch again but never have time to.

Basically, take some time to love and appreciate yourself. Re-connect with you and take a breather. You deserve it.
