The City of Killeen is sharing the findings from a real estate data site that shows a reduction in crime by 21% from 2010 to 2015.

A press release issued by Hilary Shine, Killeen's Director of Public Information, cites real estate data site FindTheHome.com as the source of the statistics.

The site uses "FBI Uniform Crime Reporting" to compare the crime rate from 2010 to 2012, and 2013 to 2015. The study compares the average to measure the percentage decrease. In this study, crime data was included along with property crime information.

According to the press release from the City, Killeen voluntarily gives crime statistics to the national system each year.

While it's good to see these numbers suggest a decrease in crime from 2010-2015, it's sad to see that the same day this press release came out we had a shootout at a shopping center along Central Texas Expressway in broad daylight.
