Temple Fire Chief Lonzo Wallace To Retire In October

Temple Fire and Rescue Chief Lonzo Wallace announced Wednesday that he will retire in October according to a press release from the City of Temple.

Wallace, 60, served around 26 years with the Fort Worth Fire Department before becoming Temple’s fire chief in 2000. Wallace has overseen the expansion of the fire department in recent years and recently lead its first comprehensive study to identify future long term needs for fire services in Temple and the surrounding area.

Wallace has also served the Temple community as a Wildcat Mentor, board member of the Rotary Club of Temple and a member of the Salvation Army. He serves as a member of the Scott & White Institutional Biosafety Committee and is the past chair of the Bell County Communications Regulatory Board.

Wallace plans to spend his retirement with is wife Nell, his parents and his children and grandchildren, and hopes to spend time making improvements to his ranch.

A reception will be held in his honor on Oct. 4 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Temple’s Central Fire Station located at 210 North 3rd St. Wallace will officially retire on Oct. 17.
