Temple Fire Department to Host 9-11 Memorial Service
The Temple Fire Department is inviting the public to attend a September 11th Memorial Service Thursday at the Central Fire Station, 210 North 3rd St.
The service will begin at 8:55 a.m. with opening remarks by Fire Chief Mitch Randles. At 8:59 a.m., a ringing of the bell will mark the collapse of the South Tower of the World Trade Center. The ringing of the bell is a fire department custom which honors those who’ve perished in the line of duty.
After the Temple Fire & Rescue Honor Guard presents the colors, the service will move on to a reflection upon the events of Tuesday, September 11, 2001 and will conclude with a second ringing of the bell to mark the collapse of the North Tower.
The service is meant to honor the sacrifice of emergency responders who died at the World Trade Center site, along with the victims of the attacks there, at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Temple Fire & Rescue asks anyone unable to attend to please observe a minute of silence from 8:59 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
