Last Friday, July 20, around 300 acres of land on the west side of Temple were scorched by a grass fire. Now, stunning aerial photographs taken by a local firefighter show the aftermath of the blaze, which required the combined effort of several area fire departments to contain and extinguish.

These images come to us courtesy of Temple firefighter Ryan Moffenbier, who captured them using a drone. He was kind enough to share them with us.

Thankfully, Temple Fire and Rescue officials say none of the 150 or so homes threatened by the fire were damaged, but it's stunning to see how close a call it was. (Five outbuildings and an abandoned vehicle were destroyed.)

Our sincerest thanks go out to Temple Fire & Rescue, along with the fire departments that sent units to help. Those include Bartlett, Belton, Holland, Little River Academy, Moffat, Morgan’s Point, Rogers, Salado, Sparta, and Troy. Equipment and help were also provided by Bell County, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Parks & Wildlife, the Temple Community Emergency Response Team, and the Texas A&M Forest Service.
