Temple Firefighters Honor Those Lost on 16th Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks

Monday marks the 16th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, with fire and police departments across the nation holding ceremonies to honor the 2,997 victims killed that day – 412 of whom were emergency workers.

The video above, courtesy of KWKT FOX 44, shows Temple firefighters marking the collapse of the World Trade Center South Tower, ringing a bell to commemorate those lost in the line of duty. After the presentation of a timeline of events that fateful morning, the bell is rung again to mark the collapse of the North Tower.

The ceremony also honored those who lost their lives at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, as well as the passengers of United Airlines Flight 93 who prevented an attack on the Capitol building, but lost their lives when their flight crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Those of us old enough to remember watching events unfold that day will never forget where we were or what we felt. More importantly, we will never forget the images of men and women who didn’t hesitate to run toward, not away from, the chaos and destruction in order to save lives.

We at Townsquare Media would like to express our sincere gratitude to emergency workers both active, retired, and aspiring who wouldn’t think twice about putting themselves in harm’s way to help others.
