For the seventh year in a row, Temple's public library has received an Achievement of Library Excellence Award.

Library Director Leigh Gardner accepted the award from Texas Municipal Library Directors Association President Waynette Ditto during a March 3 Temple City Council meeting, the City announced Monday.

“I am honored to accept this award on behalf of the Library and our patrons,” Gardner said. “It really is an award for the entire community.”

Temple Public Library is among 41 of 555 public library systems in Texas to receive the award.

In order to earn the award, libraries must demonstrate excellence in ten areas, including literacy support, community outreach, and effective summer reading programs.
