A Texas father lost his life Wednesday after his daughter fell into a river while fishing and he dove in to save her.

53-year-old Brian Holmberg of Victoria and his 13-year-old daughter were fishing together at Badu Park in Llano when the girl's pole fell into the Llano river. She fell in when she reached to catch it and was swept away by a strong current.

Holmberg went in after her, then cried out for help. A female park employee dove into the river and rescued Holmberg's daughter, but she wasn't able to bring Holmberg to shore due to his size.

Medics were called to the scene at 2:07 PM, but their efforts at CPR proved unsuccessful. Holmberg was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Llano, where he was pronounced dead.
