The Texas Rangers are investigating after two Harker Heights police officers opened fire on a man who reportedly threatened them with a metallic object Wednesday afternoon.

Our news partner KWTX-TV reports that officers were called to the Big Oaks Estate manufactured home community at 521 East Veterans Memorial Boulevard shortly before 4 PM after receiving a report of a man acting erratically and stumbling into traffic.

When officers arrived, they tried to speak with the man, but he was uncooperative. He then pointed a metallic object at the officers which appeared to be a gun. The officers fired their weapons, injuring the man.

According to KWTX, the object turned out to be a vaporizing pen with a shape similar to a firearm.

As of Wednesday night, police had not released the names of the officers or the suspect. The suspect was transferred to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple where he was expected to recover from his injuries.
