It was always in the back of my mind whenever I would have to get on the toll road the first year I moved to Texas. Oh lord, what kinda bill am I gonna get in the mail?

You don't have to look very hard to find examples of horror stories from toll drivers who received a bill in the mail that came with hundreds, even thousands of dollars in late fees.

Well, most of that is all behind us now. Thanks to a new law that went into effect on March 1st, There is now a cap on late fees that can be issued from the toll road! The cap is set at $48 dollars per year. Much more realistic. Thank you Senate Bill 312!

KXAN reports that TxDOT hit the reset button on the late fees in a show of good customer service.

In 2017, Texas motorists paid $21.7 million dollars in late fees.
