The man walked into a public restroom near the center’s entrance around 8 a.m. and shot himself. The unidentified veteran was taken to the center’s urgent care unit and then transferred to Scott and White hospital. No information about his condition has been released.

The man was alone in the bathroom, and hospital officials say his daughter has been notified.

The incident has already prompted staff to conduct a review of the center’s security as well as its suicide prevention program. The facility does not have metal detectors at its entrances.
