Waco Paramedic Struck by Drunk Driver on Loop 340

KWTX is reporting a Waco paramedic was struck by a drunk driver near Loop 340 about 3:30 am this morning.

Waco Police Sergent W. Patrick Swanton told KWTX that a paramedic was treating a person near Loop 340 and Imperial in Waco early this morning when we exited the ambulance and was struck by a person later determined to be a drunk driver.

The paramedic (who has not been identified by name) was pinned between the ambulance and the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. The paramedic was taken to Baylor Scott and White and transferred to surgical ICU.

Swanton told KTWX that, "The men and women of ETMC are an extremely valuable resource to our community, saving our citizens lives every day. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with this line of duty injury."

We certainly will.

Police arrested 36-year-old Alec Nava and charged him with intoxicated assault on a public servant and driving with an invalid license.
