Vera June Oberg ('Mama June' to family and friends) was born June 12th, 1917, and celebrated over the weekend with a surprise drive-by parade where she was given more than 160 birthday cards, according to KWTX.

Vera June Oberg's Trip to 105

Oberg was born in Oklahoma but moved to Kingsville, Texas as a young girl. She stayed in the area, eventually meeting her husband and raising a family. After her husband died, she became a missionary schoolteacher in Puerto Rico and married her second husband in the late 70s. After the death of her second husband, she lived in San Antonio at an independent living center for 20 years.

Earlier this year, Oberg moved to Waco to live with her daughter Linda and son-in-law, Mike Bell. She had five children, outliving two of them. She also has 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

What's her secret to a long and healthy life? She says it's staying active and letting God take control.

The Oldest Person in the World

Not many people live to see their great-great-grandchildren! Oberg still has a few years to go before she breaks the world record, however.

According to the Guinness World Records, the oldest living woman in the world (as well as the oldest person) would be 118-year-old Sister André. Lucile Randon, who took the name of Sister André in 1944, is the second-oldest French person and the second-oldest European person ever recorded.

Oldest Person in Texas

While Oberg is certainly one of the oldest women in Central Texas, Elizabeth Francis in Houston is currently the oldest living person in the Lone Star State. Francis was born in 1909 and will be 113 at the end of July, according to Gerontology Wiki.

Who Are The 5 Richest People in Texas, Not Counting Elon Musk?

There are more billionaires in America than in any other country, according to Stacker. For some people, the money just keeps pouring in, as Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is projected to become the world’s first trillionaire by 2026.

However, Bezos is not the world's richest person right now. That title goes to the founder of SpaceX, Tesla, and the new owner of Twitter, Elon Musk. Musk owns a mansion in Austin but says his main home is a $50,000 rental from SpaceX in Boca Chica, Texas.

Forbes lists 63 billionaires in Texas, including Elon Musk. Let's find out who's at the top of the list in the Lone Star State for 2022, right behind Musk.
