The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives handed the West Fertilizer Plant explosion site over to non-government legal experts Monday.

Lawyers from across the United States are being allowed full access to the site of April’s deadly explosion for the first time since the investigation into its cause began. Legal experts specializing in electrical, structural and chemical engineering will pore over evidence in an attempt to piece together what happened.

Crane Engineering, a firm specializing in industrial accidents, is now responsible for the site and is assisting these legal teams. They will be meeting with the experts on the scene today In order to discuss protocol and the nature of the investigation.

Legal experts combing the site represent the victims of the blast, as well as defendants Adair Grain Incorporated and West Fertilizer Company.
