Killeen Housing Authority’s Moss Rose Homes in the 1200 block of East Avenue E in Killeen was the site of a fire that left 20 residents displaced Friday.

Flames were reported in the shared attic of the complex around noon. The building was evacuated by maintenance staff before firefighters arrived, and neighboring buildings were evacuated as a precaution. The blaze was put out around 1:30 p.m., though a few hot spots remained.

The Red Cross is assisting displaced residents. Moss Rose Homes is a 145-unit property operated by Texas Public Housing, an extension of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
