With the cooler weather beginning to roll in, there will be children in need of coats in the Central Texas area. That's why the folks at Harker Heights Parks and Recreation are hoping to help kids out with their seventh annual coat drive.

Activities director for the city of Harker Heights, Heather Butler, tells KWTX, “It’s important for children to have a coat that’s new or that’s a worry they don’t have to have, worry about keeping warm. They can just focus on their schoolwork, and not what the weather’s going to be outside or what clothes they’ll be able to put on their back.”

Butler said she started the coat drive after moving to the area and noticing a need.

Butler said in previous years she has received around 90 to 130 coats, and has set a goal of 300 this year's drive.

Coat donations will be taken at the Harker Heights Library Activities Center, Harker Heights Recreation Center, and Harker Heights City Hall. New and gently used coats are a must, and coats can range from extra small all the way up to triple-extra large. The coat drive will last until October 31st.
