The City of Belton is scheduled to demolish an old water tower on South Davis Street next week.

The city informed nearby residents of the dismantling project Friday. A crew with Hunter Demolition will begin taking the tower apart on Thursday, May 7, and some roads near the site will be temporarily closed. Officials say the process could take up to four days.

The 150,000 gallon tank, built in 1979, was taken out of service several years ago and is being removed due to concerns that its deterioration could become a safety hazard. City officials have no immediate plans for the use of the land after the demolition.
