The Tony Romo era in Dallas is preparing to come to an end according to The Dallas Morning News.

The Cowboys are set to cut Tony Romo on Thursday to cut cap space when NFL free agency begins. While speculation on the move was expected, it still comes as a shock to many fans.

If the cut takes effect Thursday, the start of NFL free agency, the decision frees up $5.1 million in cap space for the 2017 season, money that can be spent immediately on veterans the Cowboys hope to retain on the defensive side of the ball. If Romo is instead designated as a June 1 cut, that allows Romo to sign with another team immediately and creates $14 million in cap space for the club to use beginning on June 2. - David Moore Dallas Morning News

Romo leaves as one of the franchise's most successful quarterbacks, owning a majority of the team's passing records, including games with three or more touchdowns, 20-plus touchdown seasons, and 400-yard games.
