Are You Missing Mail? Packages and More Dumped in Killeen, Texas
Do you ever feel like you're rolling the dice when you mail something?
Area residents are asking a lot of questions, and Bell County officials are investigating after a pile of discarded mail was found in south Killeen along the side of the road on Monday, February 21st.
The Killeen Daily Herald is reporting that the mail, including opened packages, unopened mail, credit cards, and medicine was found dumped in the 700 block of Hickory Drive.
Where Was The Dumped Mail Going?
Mail and packages that were intended for residents of Dodge City Drive, American West Drive, and Bose Ikard Drive were seen in the mass of discarded items.
All of those streets are located off Clear Creek Road and Bunny Trail in Killeen.
Packages and pieces of mail destined for Second and Fifth streets in Austin were also among the discarded items, according to the Killeen Daily Herald.
Punishment for Mail Theft
Deputies from the Bell County Sheriff’s Department removed the undelivered items from the scene. They are looking for any information about how the mail was dumped, and who is responsible.
Mail theft in Texas can range in being charged with anything from a Class A misdemeanor to a first-degree felony.
Punishment depends on the number of addresses stolen from, and increases if there's proof an offender intended to steal someone’s identifying information, or theft from a disabled or elderly person's address.
